The towels and bathroom accessories guide

Buying guides, care tips and styling advice

We have not started a blog, and we would rather say so than keep a page that promises articles and lists none. What we have written instead sits on the pages it belongs to, where you will actually be reading it when the question comes up. Here is where to find it.

Choosing a towel

Towels and bath sheets is the place to start. It covers what GSM means in practice, why a bath sheet is not just a large bath towel, and where cotton beats microfiber and where it does not.

The Turkish cotton set explains why long-fibre cotton gets softer with washing rather than thinner, and why buying four at once is a different decision from buying one.

The plush bath sheet is the guide to weight: what 820 GSM feels like, what it costs you in drying time, and why a dense towel wants a rail to itself.

The other jobs a towel does

Beach towels covers size and weight for sand and chlorine, and why a bath towel on a beach is a compromise you notice within ten minutes.

Hair turbans covers why microfiber suits wet hair better than terry cotton, and why the wrap shape matters more than the fabric does.

Robes compares the hooded microfiber robe with the belted plush-lined one, and what 260 GSM means on something you wear rather than dry with.

Looking after them

The short version, and it is on every product page too. Skip the fabric softener: it leaves a film on the loops and it is the usual reason a good towel stops absorbing. Wash new cotton once before use. Tumble on low rather than hot. And give a dense towel room, in the drum and on the rail, because a towel that never fully dries is the one that starts to smell.
